GAP IIDTool - which one or other tools to consider
About to reprogram in a new Instrument cluster. I know I have to finally break down and get a solution to program and the IIDTool seems to be the popular choice.
I would like to use the tool with both my iPhone and a connected computer/laptop, but only laptop would be ok.
Couple of questions:
1) With the IIDTool BT it seems to come with the G4 adapter. Can I use a mobile version of the software and a laptop?
2) There is a IIDTool Pro that costs $$$$$. It seems to come with both the G3 and G4 adapters. Why? Any other capabilities I would get versus just the BT version?
3) I am guessing that when purchased, it only supports one VIN. I also see where you can add multiple VINs. Can you buy just another adapter and add all VINs to both? I have a Disco II, LR3, and LR4 at home and another LR3 where ever the Army sends my Son. Would like to have two devices and then add all VINs to it.
4) One of the tools seem to come with a USB cable. Does this come with all models? What would I get via USB that I would not get via the cable?
5) Considering the costs? What other devices should I consider. All the usual error codes need to be scanned and cleared, reprogram key fobs, program in the new instrument clusters and other components, troubleshoot suspension, bleed brake systems easier, and any other details I want from the trucks.
Thanks and I hope everyone had a GREAT 4th.

Not sure about all your questions.
GAP pro for $2k plus does all VINs.
Adding a single VIN to the “regular” GAP is $45 per.
GAP is the best. If you CANT afford it, that’s one thing. But if its remotely possible that you CAN , do it.

I can afford it, but if I only get unlimited VIN capabilities with the Pro and no other capabilities, I guess I will go with just the IIDTool BT. I can just add the other VINs which will only cost me $180 more.
The pro "kit" simply includes the whole range of Rover years. Extra VIN used to be $80, now it is $101.00 USD. I am not a fan go GAP. Popular yes, but the support is not that great and the software is getting glitchy. It is becoming an old relic that needs an overhaul but the one person that runs the company does not seem interested at all. I think other tools out there have stepped up their game. But the biggest monopoly GAP has is software updates, you can get them from them as it seems Land Rover must allow GAP to seed them out.

I wish I could, but I only have experience with GAP and Rovers. I have seen others on here but mainly on Facebook talk or demonstrate other tools. Long ago GAP had the edge, for example it was one of very few that could program keys. But now many more can. Another was adjusting air ride by calibration, a lot of tools can do that now.
I dont think you will hate the GAP per say, like I said I feel they could do more. One feature I would LOVE is a tire size calibration. With the GAP you have to change several settings if you want to fine tune your speedometer. But the values are not real world and make no sense even if they are supposedly in millimeters. For me the result is a speedometer that reads a couple miles fast on the highway yet an adaptive cruise system, and have unit, that are spot on. Before they were all behind tho. And if I take a corner too fast and hard stability kicks in. So I am not quite right dialed in but playing with the values more just makes it all worse.
Again, my 2 cents. The one good thing though with GAP is resale value in the community. So if for some reason you do jump to another diagnostic setup you can remover most of your investment.

Thanks Dakota, I might just take the plunge on the GAP. About to add another Rover to the herd, I know, I know, a drug addiction would be cheaper and probably more fun.
Nanocom can also do a cluster swap, but it involves a trick of downloading the original installed cluster ROM. Then while powering the Nanocom externally you power up the Rover and let the Nanocom do some checks, power off the Rover, install the new cluster, power the Rover back up and then write the original ROM file to the new cluster. Basically you have to skirt around a checksum.
There is an Australian guy who has a YouTube channel called "Shane's Shed". He compared the GAP to another code reader, Launch Creader I believe. I didn't watch the whole video as I have a GAP so cannot mention specifics. Might be a cheaper alternative for some folks.
