GAP Tool or Mongoose JLR Tool
Interested in one of these. I can get my hands on a Mongoose COPY for around $80, vs the GAP Tool for around $400. I want to be able to update my ECU and such, and wasn't sure if the GAP Tool was capable of this or not.
Thanks!
Eric
Thanks!

Never used the Mongoose, but what ECUs are you wanting to update? There are about a million different ECUs on the LR3 and the IID tool will reflash a few of these. Off the top of my head, I know that you can update/reflash the following on the LR3:
1. The Body Control Module (to allow for things like 3 flash turn signals)
2. The Instrument Cluster ECU (to allow clock in gauge cluster)
3. The EAS ECU to accommodate the newer EAS compressor
4. You can update your Nav system to allow Nav on the move
5. The Bluetooth ECU to update to the newest Bluetooth software for the LR3 module
I think that's it as far as updating software...

Go here and enter your year for the ECU's the IID tool can flash.

Updating the BCM Body Control ECU adds the 3 turn flash feature. To work, it will also have to be enabled in the Car Configuration File (CCF).
Thanks Schwaggy! Do you guys think the GAP Tool is worth it? A lot of cash to dish out when a Copy of a Mongoose Tool is $80
I have a Macbook Pro with a VM To run Windows XP 32bit, So shouldn't be a problem.
I wanted to be able to flash new Drivetrain Updates and TSB Updates to the ECU, along with the features of the GAP Tool.

IIDTool is VERY MUCH worth it. It's awesome for saved EAS settings and you want to run larger tires but only lift the LR3 at a trail head. ....and it has saved my a$$ at least once when my air shock wore out and I broke a ARB end link and the whole EAS went nuts. No problem, use the IIDTool to lift it back up, pull fuses and get the hell out of there.
I wheeled my way out of the South Loop of Tahuya (for those who know it) which is a pretty easy but slightly technical trail in western WA with NO EAS and a spent air shock. That's how bad a$$ the LR3 is, people!
Get the IIDTool, you'll be glad you did. Unless the Mongoose can really do everything the GAP product can do.

mangoose sdd clone, less than 50 bucks, is good at fault clearing, displaying live data, and specially datalogging features.
What is very helpful is to go into the datalogger (under header maintenance or recommendation, can't remember) and go into the list of parameters that can be recorded. Mongoose has to be attached to computer to work. This also works without connection to the car. I was amazed how much info on the different parts of the car is in there. Loading it on Win XP, no risks!
