IID tool is what I went with. I also have an autocomm setup from working with my old D2.

Personally, with the virtual machine running XP - That's awesome to tinker with most old software -- but the danger with virtual is simply that it can hang at any time, since it's in an emulated state. While this isn't something I would EXPECT to see, brief pauses on your system -- while flashing an ECU? Not something I would take the chance with. App store could attempt a check for updates spinning the disk to a different location, and BAM, take cpu cycles from the VM!

(Yeah, I did VMware for years at work...)

Default GAP or BlackBox?

The question really should be the GAP tool or the BlackBox tool?

Both are good, both cost real money, and both have their relative merits.

A few years back, I had the Mongoose but now if you can get it to work on a 3, it is probably only a limited code reader at best. Once upon a time, it would at least do changes to the CCF, but with progress, the available software "tightened up" and the capabilities decreased.
