Default Grease everywhere behind wheel

Guys, this is what it looks like behind my driver's side wheel. I can't tell where this grease is coming from. I have a nasty flu and haven't had a chance to wipe things down and find the source. It's confusing since the CV boot appears relatively clean.

Please have a look at the pics and let me know if you have any ideas for what I should look at when I feel better. Thanks!

Your CV Boot (black rubber thing) is torn and that is the grease that keeps the joint from melting down.

If you don't replace the boot and re-fill with grease very soon you will need a new shaft (if it's not already to late for it)

Yup probly a small crack you won't find unless you manipulate the boot, I did not know anyone sold boot kits anymore, axles in general have gotten so cheap

Plus I always found that by the time you know its bad crap has gotten in and a boot kit is just a temporary band aid followed by buying an axle just my .02

Actually if you look in the second pic Tom I'm pretty sure you can see where it split lol. Right next to the tulip it looks like grease is coming out of the boot.

I don't know if they sell the boot kits for a LR3 or not to be honest. I've done a boot kit before and it most cases I'd rather buy the shaft it's quicker and easier than dealing with those stupid crimp clamps.

Think you are correct, last few months we did em on both dads gm cars and both split by inbound clamp

Eithet way have to remove axle, why chance doing twice imo

Oh I agree I hate doing them but I have no idea how expensive the LR3 shafts are

Thanks guys! Shafts are about $275 and boots are $25.
Since it's not grinding or making noise, I should be okay with just boots.
Glad I caught it early.

You should be okay. I went through the same thing several years ago. REALLY messy, just like your pics. Changed the boot (only) and it was all good.

Well, you guys were correct. My indy tech proved it was more economical to do the shaft instead of just the boots. $275 out the door for a new shaft, and that included overnight shipping for the part and he did it on X-Mas Eve!

I love my indy shop!

Merry Christmas Everybody.
