Default Height Control paddles & steering rattling over rocky terrain

Hello!
I had 2 questions and looking for some input-
1- Height control paddles are not working I use GAP tool. Do I need to replace the panel on the center console? just an inconvenience vs serious issue.

2- On a light off-roading excursion, there was a lot of rattling in the steering. I have replaced the inner/outer tie-rods recently as well as the control arms 18k ago (1 year). It usually does that, but my co-pilot girlfriend was startled so I figured I'd pose the question in the forums.
Thanks All!-
James

I'd need to hear it and/or feel it in order to really take a guess. It could be a lot of things, including nothing.

Hs the lower steering shaft been replaced? Do you have it shifted ALL the way up or in/out? I found its best to never adjust them all the way, back off just a hair.

No-
the lower steering shaft is original. I don't play with the steering wheel placement very often. It could be that- because it only happens over rocky terrain/trails like something i would describe as a little less than a dirt road

You can certainly try it. It could be the upper shaft bolts. I drive corrugated roads and my wheel certainly does not feel loose. My lower shaft was replaced a couple years ago. Usually they tighten up and cause steering resistance but I know of at least one case where it seems to have gone past that point and them become very sloppy. Probably from forecast steering. Either way its not something I would ignore. With a second set of eyes on the shaft in the engine pay you should be able to narrow it down.

I think it's pretty normal to "feel" the terrain through the steering wheel as you drive over it; however, that's different than "rattling." Is this an audible rattle?

Could be the roll bar bushes, does it feel loose thru the wheel or is it more the sound ?

It feels a bit loose, but only when on washboard/rocky terrain. On pavement- no issues. I will have my local LR mechanic take a look at steering shaft at my 76k service interval.
Thank you!
