Default Here's one....

I have sort of wrote this off as just a characteristic of the ZF transmission which - in both LR3s - works fine....but here goes.

I manual shift a lot. In my 2005 (130k miles) while shifting from 2 to 1, it will often "pop out" of 1 and go back into 2. If I shift while RPMs are a little higher (maybe 1500-2000) it tends to hold 1st more consistently. IIRC, this didn't start happening until after the software update to eliminate the CA stop effect.

In my 2006 (220k miles) it will often just not go from 2 to 1, and remains in 2. This is about a 50-50 deal, I'd say.

They have both had their transmission fluid "serviced." On the 2005 that means fluid was removed and replaced but the original pan and filter are still there. On the 2006, I'm not sure what was done because it wasn't mine at the time; but I have some service history.

Any thoughts? Are they just old? Is this normal?

Thanks in advance,
Houm

When it stops in 2nd does it then throw a fault or just revs out then changes up ?, i have a similar issue with 3rd and i can then ease off the throttle and it will shift down or it faults with the F on the dash and gets stuck in 3rd.
Valve body rebuild with new solenoids will be done in the new year.

Manual mode I use it off road a lot. It would do it in normal mode from time to time as well. Never sport mode though as I recall

Wonder if it's a "protect the user from themselves" thing LR wrote into the computer. Basically don't let them downshift too early to avoid high RPMs and engine wear

I don't think so as I was nearly stopped when I would try to shift

Yeah same....my REVs are definitely not that high when I downshift. On the '06 it's probably just wear, the thing has ~220k. On the '05 I still blame it on the B034 campaign. It never did that before the CA Stop fix.
