How many miles are on your LR3
#61
ZF Makes a metal pan which fits on the LR3. This pan is an alternative to the plastic pan with integrated filter. You can then remove the plastic pan and filter by cutting / breaking the neck off the filter. Then you can refit the new filter and metal pan. After than you can change just the filter, which will be a little cheaper in the long run than buying a new pan each time. These are popular in Australia, for the above stated reason, and additional stone protection. This information was put together between several forum users, including bbyer, jk-is-fishing, myself.

Filter 0501 213 359
Pan screws 0736 010 347 requires 21 screws
Keep in mind that you are losing app. 1 liter on your transmission fluid
capacity. (More frequent fluid changes required) The fluid level has to be checked with the overflow plug in the pan, not the trans housing anymore. If the filler plug in the housing is used to adjust fluid level, the trans is overfilled by app. 1 liter and will overheat-fail. (courtesy Klaus http://www.thectsc.com

miles & front end noise LR3
160K & going strong. Starting to get a slight whine in the rear end or xfer case. Rover says the fluids never need to be changed but I find that hard to believe. Gonna change them soon. New front struts but still have the "ping" noise EVERY time I hit a bump. Sounds like a wooden mallet hitting the bottom of an empty steel soup can. Any ideas here fellows??? Bushings? Also my mileage is now under 12MPG. Been gettin worse each year.

149,500 on my '06 LR3 SE. Got it in May, '08 with 21k on it. Had the rear latch issue taken care of under warranty (having another issue now); brakes done twice, new thermostat and belts. New tires on when I got it, another set at 77k (Hankook), getting ready for another set here shortly... Really has been a great ride. Tow a 4500 lb boat with no issue whatsoever.
I have recently, however, noticed an electrical issue. Need to get it checked out. Occassionally the ext temp indicator shows dashes instead of the temp itself. Flashers engage and the air turns off... no warning on the dash. Any ideas?
