Default How to price '06 LR3 that needs new engine

I've owned my 2006 LR3 SE7 for 12 years. Truck is black with tan interior and has 168k miles. It has been an AMAZING vehicle, but unfortunately I had been dealing with a coolant issue that did not get resolved correctly and my engine is toast. I've decided to sell "as is" but have no idea how to price. If it still ran, I would list it for around $7k. Everything else is in good working order except for the occasional key fob battery issue. Will need two front tires soon too. Below are a few things that have been fixed/replaced in last 3 years. Would be curious what price you think is reasonable.

2020
- New water/coolant assembly housing
- Heater core flush
2019
- New ignition coil
2018
- Rear brakes and rotors
- New fan clutch
- New air suspension compressor
- New air strut assembly for front

Location will play into it, along with options like HD etc. Around here $1000-1500

First off, sorry for the long thread, but having done this a few times there is a lot to unpack with this question.

Here in Houston the salvage price for a 2005-2009 LR 3 is $500-$1150 depending on mileage and trim level.

Are you going to replace it?
If you are not replacing it, disregard the rest of the post and try to get the best price you can.

Disposing of a broken car that we have nourished and loved for miles and miles is always hard. It is emotional and we tend to think that others will see that care and improvements we have made and feel the same way as we do about them.

I can tell you that the problem is you are dealing with money, and since money is involved, people don't care about what you think it is worth, only how to get it as cheap as they can.

Having done this twice with a D2 (replaced head gaskets twice on the first one and scrapped the second one without a repair) and once with a 2007 LR3 and 2010 LR4 (flooded) and other than the immediate issue, I thought my cars were in great shape.

The first D2 went to an LR guy that wanted it for parts to repair his wrecked 2004 D2 and paid $800. The second one was picked up by the salvage company where I left it on the highway, hauled it 200 miles to their lot and then cut me a check for $500. So I learned holding out for a Land Rover enthusiast over a salvage company garnished me and extra $300.

The LR3/4 were covered by insurance after a hurricane and it was just one of more than 700,000 cars here in Houston that were flooded. The Insurance company picked them up from my driveway, hauled them to a big lot of dead cars and had a third party appraise them and then cut me a check. NO negations, NO chance to plead my case about new air compressor or new transmission accepted. They had a table for what things are worth and that was that.

I don't envy your position. Personally, my 2006 will have to be in a wreck where I am unable to repair it before I will think about replacing it. As I figure it, a repair bill for $11,000 for a motor rebuild is cheaper than replacing it with a new truck that carries a $700 a month loan payment for the next 6 years. If I buy a different LR3 for say $8,000, I will be doing many of the common repairs I have already done to this one, so I could be approaching the $11,000 mark anyway (plus new inspection/ licensing taxes etc.).

Again sorry for the long post, but it is an emotional issue and as such should be thought out rationally before making a decision.

Jeff
