Default IID / Rod Lift Ride Question

For all of you who have either a rod lift or IID tool lift and are running your LR3 with a lift and larger tires full time - what do you think of the ride quality? Is it basically just the same feel as driving in the normal off road mode before the vehicles lowers itself back down in terms of stiffness, cornering, etc.?

Thank you

No. The larger tires definitely make it feel more "beefy" and handle more like a truck. I'd say it's stable but not as responsive. Then again the tires I run are MT/Rs and that could have something to do with it as well. Plus, "normal" height is never really Normal Height with the rod lift....it's Off-Road Height.

With the IIDTool you can utilize true normal height, and that ride is closer to what normal feels like but again with the larger tires it has more of a beefy truck feel...which isn't a bad thing.

Thanks for the info. It sounds like you're saying most of the ride difference is from the tires as opposed to feeling like the center of gravity is higher, airbags are a lot stiffer, etc. Is that correct?

What size tires are you running? I am hoping to get slightly bigger tires and use the IID to give me just a little bit of lift for my daily driving, have it aligned correctly, but then be able to use the extended mode full time when I'm offroad and not have the vehicle lower as I speed up. I just don't want sacrifice a ton of on road quality if I don't have to.

Interested in doing something like this for the LR4. Not too high as I need to get in and out of parking garages, but a recent offreoad excursion sliced my sidewall and cost me a new tire.

I'm saying the handling difference COULD be due to the tires. My MT/Rs are 32s. I you're only going up a little bit and use the IIDTool only when off-road you'd likely be okay but I've never really tried that. I did run 31.5" Cooper Zeons with no lift for a while. They handled nice. Still different but not better or worse per se.

I am running the iid lift with slightly larger tires(265 65 18's). I run the lift full time usually. There is a slight difference in cushion from the air bags at the lifted height as well as if I drop it down below normal height with the iid. I have a huge speed bump in my neighborhood that I used to make my comparison when I initially lifted it. It is definitely not an issue though and still rides very smooth.

Perfect, thanks for the info. guys. I think I would like to run 31's or 31.5 max so I will figure out how to calculate what lift I'd need with the IID tool to accomodate those tire sizes.

You probably wouldn't need a lift at all for 31s.

I think 31.5 is right on the verge if needing lift or not from what I have read. A main reason I want the IID tool anyway is for adding lift specifically when I want it and not having vehicle lower itself, plus for clearing faults, etc.
