Default Intermittent fault potentially wiring

Hi all,

have had an annoying fault surface on my 2007 disco 3, drives and works fine and then all of a sudden handbrake fault will appear with hdc unavailable. If it happens whilst driving the heater will turn off, hazards will come on and door locks will randomly lock/unlock and then if switch the engine off it won’t turn over then after a while it will just work again. Also the handbrake operates completely faultlessly even with the fault showing.

spoke to local specialist and they have suggested potentially some wiring corrosion somewhere, have seen a few times people have reported these issues but no one has posted the answer that I can see, what is more weird is potentially coincidentally it is triggered by reversing ?

thanks in advance for any advice.

cheers

tom

Codes might help, but I would certainly check operating voltages. Low voltage can cause issues and alternators can die quickly or a slow random death. Do you have a navigation unit in the dash?

Pull fault codes then look for wire issues and corrosion with the splices in the passenger door sill area under the carpet. The main harness runs under the carpet from the passenger foot area, down the sill and all the way to the rear passenger foot area. These wires and splices are prone to issues if any water has leaked into the vehicle from broken sunroof drains or leaking cowl covers.

Thankyou guys! Massively appreciate the advice. In terms of voltages it’s resting voltage was about 12.3 an hour after a drive and 14.2 when running does that sound about right ? Battery looks fairly new but I suppose it can’t hurt replacing it.

my next job is to pull kick parts and step trim off and check for cable corrosion and wet, a previous owner had fitted a snorkel and it doesn’t look very well sealed it’s right hand driver so snorkel is drivers side however any potential issues caused by that leaking ?

cheers

12.3 is on the low side, instrument cluster fault can cause this type issues but check the simple things first.

There is another thread on here that had those issues and he resolved them by moving and properly securing the connectors to his HVAC head unit.
Try looking HERE!

It costs nothing to try and it may fix your problem
