A couple of days ago, I was thinking what would happen if I trick the system in relation to an obstacle below the LR3 that gave me the message "SUSPENSION IN EXTENDED MODE" and "RESET SUSPENSION HEIGHT IF CLEAR OF OBSTACLE".
I have put rolled moving blanket (I keep in my trunk) under the car, and lowered the car to access height. I get only icon that car is lowered and no other message. The "SUSPENSION IN EXTENDED MODE" message is gone since then.
Just today, again lowered the car, then lifted the car to standard height and lifted the car again then lowered the car to standard height and no issue.
The only problem I am left with is the suspension on the rear of the vehicle. It is still hard (harder than it supposed to be) and when hitting the path hole or riding off the bump it bangs pretty loud. It feels like there is no rebound (or bags have too much air inside at standard height). Rear is also sitting little higher than front.
I was thinking to bring over my car to my mechanic again and mimic the replacement of the springs without replacing them.
1. Lift the car
2. Ask to depressurize the air suspensions' system
3. Possibly open (Unscrew) the air lines at the new springs.
4. Tighten air lines to the springs.
5. Lower the car to the position to be able to start the car and let the air compressor to work on its own and let it fill the air in the system.
What do you think about this? Do you think in any of the steps I should disconnect the battery?
Would this help? Do you have any other ideas/clues what could be wrong after new spring installation?
Personally I'd ask for a warranty replacement set of springs from Arnott/your mechanic. You've documented with 2 shops that they are not working properly after install. The vehicle should never bang on the bumpstops at normal ride height.
Thank you, @tracyc . A request for warranty replacement with Arnott will be my next step, but before I start this process, I wanted to assure 100% the issue is not the springs but rather some sort of step missed during the installation.
Does anyone have anything like Land Rover Service Bulletin for spring replacement with step by steps instructions for Land Rover LR3 2008 ?
I would greatly appreciate your help.
Just on the issue of the hard ride after replacing the rear struts (Arnotts) — for what it’s worth I had this issue on my ‘06 HSE. My mechanic tried another Arnott, same problem, the swapped to a set of Bilsteins and hard ride is gone. I still think I have a small leak ( or leaks) in the system as the truck drops a bit overnight, but I’ll get to that at some point soon.
@Edons , I did not fix the problem. I have requested full refund from Arnott as I was tired of looking into troubleshooting this issue. I received a check after 3 weeks. . I spend quite a bit on mechanic. I asked to put back my old struts and I am still riding on them. If I will go with replacement of the rear air springs/ struts I will go now with OEM as I do not want to go through the same scenario.
I find them a bit firmer, but in a good way. But this is subjective. What is not subjective is that the hard noise on bumps you describe — I know this exactly as I had it too — is gone with the bilsteins.
