Default Key Cylinder and Electrical Issues

Trying to understand some electrical issues that I'm having. Right now I'm looking at my key cylinder as a possible failure point. Wondering if anyone has experienced this as an issue. I have an 08 LR3 and my key no longer seems to really lock into the set positions. When the key is in the cylinder I'm able to literally just wiggle it a tiny bit and you can hear all sorts of things "happening" in the dash and various lights light up and shut off. Like my aux power, my transmission position lights, etc, etc. Wondering if replacing the key cylinder will fix this. Also transmission shifter will often not move and now the key is stuck in the ignition. I've looked at a bunch of the parts dealers and nobody seems to offer a key cylinder for an LR3. Would love some advice. Thanks.

Good luck with the transmission linkage fix.
I see quite a few lock cylinders with keys available on ebay. Here's a used one for $100 but there are new ones with keys also:

You'd need to swap over the physical key from the new fob to your old fob.
You could try cleaning your old cylinder first- lots of posts on that as well.

UPDATE. So I just changed out the shifter linkage and the difference is night and day in how the vehicle is shifting. Unfortunately it has not changed the electrical issue but I have a little better explanation into what is happening and maybe someone has experience with this. Vehicle starts fine but what seems to be happening is that the key falls ever so slightly back and I lose some electric related functions. Wipers don't work, some aux power outlets don't work, etc. I'm not sure what other items are in the group of not working. High beams, maybe all lights, etc. So, if I hold the key ever so slightly forward everything works fine. I let go and everything goes back to not working. Thoughts on best approach? I have a whole new (used) key cylinder that I bought. It's the whole thing, key, cylinder, housing, ignition switch and whatever else is in that housing. I'd like to stay away from all new keys if possible but it wouldn't be the end of the world. Would having new key's cut possibly work? Just change out the ignition switch? Thanks for any help and opinions.

I'd switch to the new ignition switch / lock cylinder and then switch over the new matching physical key to the old fob.
You'd need to keep the old fob key on your key chain, since the old one is what you'll need as your backup to open the hidden driver's door lock if your keyless entry fails someday.
As far as I know this should work....
Can anyone confirm?

I think that is the route I'm going to have to go unfortunately. I'll probably just re-pair the fobs as I have the ID tool and I think that is a function. My old fobs are pretty beat up. Was hoping someone was going to say there was just some part of the cylinder I could tighten. lol

Don't think the GAP tool can 'virginize' an old fob, ie reprogram one. It can only program new ones to one's to match existing.
It's not that hard to switch out the physical keys

UPDATE- FIXED. Decided to spend the afternoon dealing with this. Long story short. If you are ever experiencing this same symptom replace the ignition switch first. Ignition switch is the large black piece located at the back of the key cylinder housing. The key cylinder turns a small shaft that inserts into the ignition switch. The long story is that I first replaced the key cylinder itself and there was no change at all to the issue. If I held the key in a forward position everything worked. If I let go I'd lose some power to various items. There really was nothing else to try so I took the ignition switch off the back of the used housing and tried it and bingo, everything worked fine. So then I changed back to the original key cylinder so that my key worked everywhere and put everything back together. Hope this helps someone in the future. Now on to the next problem that has not presented itself yet but I'm sure it will soon...
