We purchased our 2008 LR3 used with only 1 key fob and so we bought two new keys from an auto locksmith shortly afterward. We have used the two new keys for a very long time without any issues. Recently, when using one of the keys, it could be used to start and run the engine without problem but the remote functions did not work properly and would not lock or unlock the doors.
I understand that i) the battery in the fob is supposed to recharge when the key is in use/inserted in the cylinder, and ii) The message center is supposed to display a 'low battery' type message if the key fob battery is low.
We haven't seen the 'low battery' type message, and it appears that the key fob battery is not charging.
I have opened the key fob to replace the battery, which is a Maxell 2032 as can be seen in the attached photo. It appears that the anode is 'welded' to the + face of the battery and the battery cannot be removed from the yellow ring case/carrier.
My questions are:
Should this battery be recharging?
Is it possible to obtain a replacement battery for the key fob that is already in the yellow case etc.?
Is that something else going on that can be addressed using the GAP diagnostic tool (which I have)?
Hi Dakota Travler,
Thanks for the info - I suspect you're right about the manual 'disinformation' thing about the on-dash warning.
The video was helpful. I'm going to follow the advice from the video and take the pcb with the battery to a camera shop and hope they can swap my battery out for ~$10 just like the filmmaker did.
Again ... thanks for your help, and Happy Thanksgiving.
