Default Leaking Mechatronics Sleeve On Transmission

Mine is just a little bit wet. Does it require the whole pan to be dropped to swap out? Think I'm OK waiting about 50k miles till I do a full transmission service?

Yes, it does. As far as the 50k, that's quite a while. Might want to check your fluid level and top off if necessary. Easier said than done of course... :/

That's what I figured. What are the symptoms of low transmission fluid on these transmissions?

By the time you are experiencing symptoms the damage is done.

Do a metal pan service. That can de done on the ground. There is a member who outlines the procedure in the thread how to do a Trans service.

Also, I think I just read where a new member had his serviced at AAMCO for $400 and something. I would grill them on what they will do exactly, what pan they use, and what fluids. Most rover mechanics charge closer to $1k.

i know there is some controversy as to whether the metal pan reduces the amount of fluid capacity, but I believe if it does its marginal(like less than .25 quart). I have drained and refilled both set ups and noticed they were both close in volume. In retrospect I wish I had been more scientific in my measuring. Next time I will do exact measurements.

I did look into the metal pan, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Everywhere it showed up it was unavailable. Any reliable sources?

The leak isn't bad, just slightly wet on the rear of the pan. I'll clean it up and recheck it next oil change and see how bad it is.

I bought a few from a Trans supply company, I will have to look it up. I'll get back to you.

I found this one on eBay, but I don't think it's genuine ZF and a little wary of that:

I used one of those before, it works just fine, but be sure to use Teflon tape on both drain plugs.

Nothing like buttoning up a trans and finding leaks the next day.

My source is out of stock of the German pans.

I use Permatex High Temperature Thread Sealant on all my diff and tranny drain plugs.
