Default Low Range how fast can you go and which fluid heats up?

The other day I forgot to take my LR3 out of low range (I was pulling something heavy up my driveway the night before.

So I take it for a drive and noticed it was reving up and I am going only like 38 mph, I realized I was stuck in low and could not get over to stop, (you know lots of people wanting to go 50mph on my ****) I was the slow dufus .

I only drove it about 1 mile in low and under 40. Was wondering what fluid heats up from the revs? The Transfer case fluid or the transmission fluid?

Im guessing the transfer case but not sure.

Hi, the only reference I can find relating to the speeds while in Low range are in the owners manual. If you have a copy look at pages 187 - 189, as for oils heating up there is no reference to that.

Being electronically controlled, wouldn't the system automatically kick out of low range if speeds are above a certain threshhold like the EAS?

Oh well maybe it was fine in low doing 38 mph. Something was reving, maybe just the Engine RPMs which might have been 4000 vs 2500 in high gear. So I guess no harm done.

You should be perfectly fine doing 38 mph in low range. in fact, I think you can even shift into low range at speeds all the way up to 30mph (perhaps it was less, but that's what I seem to recall). Isn't having a synchronized transfer case fun?

Almost right cmb6s; as this extract from the manual shows you can change from Low to High up to 38mph:

Changing from LOW to HIGH on the move

With the vehicle travelling NO FASTER THAN 60 km/h (38 mph), select ’N’ in the main gearbox. Push the transfer gear switch fully forwards to the ’HIGH’ position and release it.

It might be also be indicating that you should not travel more than 38 mph in Low and High should be selected for higher speeds.
