Default Lr3

I'm thinking about purchasing a 2005 lr3 4.4 ltr with 150,000 miles on it and the owner is saying that it has a slight noise coming from the transfer case is this a known problem and what would be the cost to repair it. He is only asking 2500 for the vehicle. I want a range Rover bad but I don't want to buy someone's problem. Is there anyone that can help me. Thanks

We it’s not a Range Rover so you should probably rethink your wants. Also if you want a Range Rover and are looking in the under $5k market you probably don’t need a Range Rover.

okay…enough of that, on to your real question: “making a noise” can mean a lot of things. Go drive it. Listen to the noise. Is it a knocking? Is it a groaning? Is it really from the T-case? Noises ttave and can really be deceiving.

I had a T-case replaced on my ‘06 with a rebuild one out of a RRS and it wasn’t terribly expensive but I got lucky. $2500 is cheap but the thing is, you will throw another couple grand to fix the T-Case, and then maybe other issues get discovered.

You really need to drive it…and better yet take an IIDTool with you and read all existing codes. Don’t have an IIDTool?…then you’re not ready for a (Range) Rover…and now we’ve come full circle.
