Default LR3 4.4 clamps for cooling system...

I have several part catalogues but none show a list of clamps used. I am replacing my radiator and all cooling hoses. Most do not come with new spring clamps. Anyone have a list of sizes? And sure, I could pick up some assorted packs but to get the range I think I need that would be almost $100 in clamps and I never use these much.

Can’t help you much. If buying aftermarket, like I did, I had to reuse the old clamps because the clamps on the Gates branded hose were one size too small and couldn’t fit the EGR return and radiator return. The end connecting to the expansion bottle fit, barely. So much for QC……. Couldn’t really return it since it was more important to change the hose. On the old one, the expansion bottle side showed visible fracturing in the rubber and the radiator return end, upon removal, was visibly split underneath and might have leaked every now and then. 🤷‍♂️

Both the radiator and bottle were Nissens and the original JLR hoses fit them perfectly.

And in case it helps, the jubilee clips between the airbox and the throttle body are 80-100 mm in size. One on mine failed (the one which holds the air hose to the throttle body) and I bought some new ones from a building materials store near me.

When I did my 07, I used some Gates hoses that just had a crappy fit. I ended up re-replacing them with OEM hoses later. This is a great kit of OEM hoses that all come with new clamps. The fitment is perfect for each hose. They’re not cheap.

I have been burned by aftermarket parts many times, especially in coolant hose replacements. Gates and Rein have both been crap for Land Rover and BMW from my personal use.

Had I known Gates was such crap I’d rather have paid 2x for PCH500153 with the green oval stamped on.

I made the silly assumption that it would be very difficult to ruin a rubber hose but it seems even that is achievable.

Weird, Gates is usually pretty dang good stuff. But I guess like all companies, greed wins and they start to make crap or just relabel other crap and push it. Sad.

Yeah my impression prior to this “experience” was that one could trust Gates.

How did that gate part fail? Did the plastic Y fitting fail? I used Gates a lot on my Mercedes and BMW, no issues. On the Rover I think I maybe have some gates Belts and tensioners on hand and that is about it. For the LR3 Gates does not come up much for parts. Rein does and I have had really good luck with them across all my Euro vehicles. Often Rein is just OEM repackaged.

If the question was for me, the Gates part did not fail. The clamps were too small to apply properly over the hose to lock it in place.

The old hose was LR original. I have highlighted the fracture area in the picture below. The fractures in the rubber were visible to the naked eye. Note that the picture is of the new hose and bottle.

I don’t have a picture of the EGR and radiator ends. On the radiator end it was more like a crack or split on the underside (not visible normally) of the hose.

I had to trim length off of each end of the Gates upper radiator hose. It is too long and gets squished against the front valve cover. The heater hose tee is about 2mm larger in diameter making it hard to fit. The Gates lower radiator hose is ok. The upper sucks! Rein’s 2008 BMW 335i molded plastic elbow in the radiator hose had a pin hole in the plastic. It should have failed a basic quality pressure test at the factory. I found out about the leak after replacing and re-filling.

Sometimes I wonder if the ground down logo OEM parts are the ones that didn’t pass OE inspection levels. I love it when I find them, but still makes me wonder.
