I’ve also wondered about that sometimes but the official story is that BP buys a lot from JLR, who gets a steady cash flow, and when reboxing they ground the logo and part number off. BP annual revenue is around 150 million GBP, which isn’t chump change, but on the other hand isn’t huge (if we reflect to JLR’s revenue for other than vehicles manufactured).
The parts ending with a G in their catalog should be identical with the one you buy over the marble countertop at the dealer ... similarly that the brakes named XS are supposed to be the same as the real deal. Who knows, the blue box is always somewhat of a lottery 🤣
FYI, almost all coolant hoses are trim to fit including OEM although OEM are usually the closest to fitting without doing so. I think my Mercedes workshop manual specifically mentioned it too.
Hmmm… that’s weird. Seems like you would be cutting off the alignment marks if you were expected to trim. It’s also weird to think that each hose would be custom fit by the worker on the assembly line, but ok.
