Default LR3 Navigation Disc update?

It appears that the most current Navteq DVD North America, (USA & Canada), navigation disk for our 3 is dated 2011-2012.

One is listing for about $300 on eBay now and I guess others will show as time goes on.

Does anyone know of any practical alternatives for something more current since it is basically 2011 data, now nearing 4 years out of date.

I know there was some similarity between Volvo and LR DVDs so I wondered if anyone had a solution using Volvo or other make discs.

I guess LR figures there is no money in providing updates for our "old" vehicles and NAVTEQ does not see any return either, hence the question of updates becomes a problem for us to solve now.

Well now I really feel like an idiot for not yanking the DVD out of my sport when I traded it in. Ughhhhhhhh! I think it was 2011 or something.. I bought it at the dealer 3 years ago (they're a year behind on dates though usually).

The voices and stuff are different in the LR3 so I'm assuming it's older but I don't know how to check without "diving in" under the seat.

There is/was a long thread on the disco3.co.uk forum trying to get an "official" word from Land Rover on whether they will order newer mapping data disks or will agree to hand off interest to Navteq so they could sell direct. At the moment, I believe Navteq is bound by a contract to LR, who are sitting doing nothing....hence no updates for a while on the LR3/D3 range.

I've just ordered a Panasonic unit which supports Apple CarPlay for my Audi. No more map data disks at silly prices. Now if I could get the same thing into the LR that would be nice...but methinks MOST is not going to cooperate.

Default pretty much how I understand it

What you say above is pretty much how I understand it.

I figure the best way to get Navteq to provide updated discs is to come up with an alternative to both them and LR.

To get results, decisions have to be forced it seems. It is kind of a "Get with the Program or Get off the Road."

As everyone else has stated. Note though, it's around 200 from NavTeq directly, assuming they actually provide an update eventually. I've bought updates from them twice, and the same errors have existed from one update to the next.

Mine too. Does the newest disc have a newer copyright date? My disc doesn't have any map dates printed on it.

Yeah my disc Says 2009-2010 version in Bold on the Disc. My original one said nothing about the Year version.

The newer disk is actually newer with updated maps and such. There are a couple of navigation route errors and typo's that I have noticed, filed a report on, and nothing was ever done. If you have an old map and 2012 is the newest available, it certainly will be an improvement. Just order on their web site.

I have given up on updating factory NAV. I may have the newest LR3 disc lying around and now my 2010 LR4 requires an update via the dealer with a firewire setup that the dealer is not prepared to do.

The best solution for all of this mess is not to bother and use a good nav system on your smartphone with real time traffic updates. Beats the factory NAV every time anyhow.
