LR3 for the Public Saftey professional?
Hi all, my name is Xavier, and I am considering purchasing a Land Rover LR3 for my self. However, I am also considering a BMW 335i sedan. And I'm debating with my self,as to which vehicle would satisfy my personal, and work needs. As my subject title suggest, I am in the field of Public Safety, and Emergency managment, and I need a vehicle that is versitile, fast, rugged, and can be easily modified with lights and siren. I'm hesitant to lean towards the LR3, because I need a vehicle that is nimble, and agile ( IE: when involved in pursuits, and respoding code 3 to calls), but I am also hesitant to lean towards the BMW 335i,because I need to carry alot of people occasionally (IE: friends, sometimes a SWAT team), and equipment, and I need something rugged.
What do you all suggest.
Thanks,
Xavier

right... Well the Disco 3 obviously has the weight and strength advantage for ramming other cars etc and also has the off road ability of a Land Rover to take you to places others cant, depends what LR3 you would want, the 2.7 TDV6 (if they sell them in the states) or the 4.4 V8. Neither are redicously fast but the 4.4 obviously is the quickest of the two. the LR3 obviously has the seating and carrying advantage over the BMW with 7 seats and a large payload. as for being rugged the LR3 is extremely strong like all land rovers and the plastic bumpers and mouldings would protect from bumps and bashes and the LR3 would also be able to tow a heavy vehicle unlike the bmw. im sure its not a hard job to fit lights and sirens but hey, what do i know. so the LR3 has the advantage of strength, off road ability and seating.
the BMW is obviously alot faster, more agile and discreet compared to the LR3. the BMW cannot carry as much or seat as many people but is the quicker option. i would think that the LR3 is more of a Support vehicle/ backup and the BMw as more of a police cruiser., depends what exactly your needs are. if your a officer i would recomend the BMW. if you work differant types and need a vehicle for every other situation i would have the LR3.
Hope that essay may be of use

Frankly your out of your mind. If you are going to use either of those vehicles your putting yourself in a difficult situation should a crash occur. Neither have been rated as pursuit vehicles in the US and to use them for such a purpose puts you at risk.
The only pursuit rated SUV is the 2 wheel drive Tahoe. You and I both know that the LR or the Beemer have their abilities, but why would you want to put either vehicle in such a position. Additionally, your more than likely on your way to voiding your warranty. Owning a Land Rover without a warranty is not something I will EVER do. Dont get me wrong, I love my LR3, but LR still hasnt got it together enough to keep my confidence in them after 50K miles. 24K on the odometer and easily one visit for every couple thousand miles.
As far as lights and sirens,,, it took me a few moments to stop chuckling. Your service tech might stroke out. My LR dealer cant even wire my driving lights without fear of sending faults to the computer, variable loads caused by flashing lights and the siren would probably send the system into overload (thats if LR has a clue).
If your referring to using these vehicles in the UK or Europe, than kindly disregard my post.
Good luck!
