Hi everyone! I am having a couple issues on my newly acquired ‘07 LR3 REAR wiper. Firstly, it comes on every time I turn on the ignition/start the car.
Then it will not go into the proper horizontal ‘park’ position. It will stop after about 3 wipes in a random position. (I am getting a fault code for this on my IID tool that says something about the park podían sensor) so maybe I just need to replace that sensor... I have been unable to find any threads dealing with this.
Finally, I am not sure how to turn on/off the rear wiper. The wiper combination lever’s diagrams and symbols are somewhat worn off. From what I’ve found out on other forums it seems that ‘pulling or pushing’ the lever forward or backward is how this is controlled. However, when I push or pull mine nothing happens. The action It feels like what you do on most cars to turn on the windshield washer. It is spring loaded to the ‘forward’ position. My thought was that maybe this is supposed to ‘click’ forward and backward. It other words, it is supposed to stay in the backward position. Bear with me this is hard to describe in words.
I think that my combination lever may be bad and that it is not staying in the off position for the rear wiper. Or maybe it is operating as it should. Having just bought the car and never even driven another LR3. I don’t know how it is supposed to operate. But the fact remains that I am unable to turn off the rear wiper.
This LR3 is fitted with the rain sensing wipers and in the configuration list I did find that it has variable speed wipers based on the vehicle speed enabled.
So if anyone can possibly direct me in the way to fix the position sensor or in the operation of the rear wiper switch I would greatly appreciate it.
Let's start with the operation of the switch. The stalk on the right side of the steering column. The fully FWD position is OFF. One detent AFT and it's ON. From there you can pull it back to wash the window and that position is momentary; it will spring back to the ON position.
So put it in the full forward position (don't break it!) and then try starting your engine and see if it actuates this time!
PS - I think the resting position of the rear wiper can be adjusted. Pop off the cap at the base of the wiper arm and there is a nut under it.

Okay! Thanks a lot! This helps me. It would appear that my switch is broken. I only have a temporary position that does nothing and no detents or clicks. It will not turn off no matter how I hold the switch. There must be something wrong with this switch. I went ahead and ordered a used one off eBay.
So about the park position maybe I didn’t describe that very well. The wiper does not even come close to the park position. I did take it off and make sure it was mounted on the shaft at the correct point. The problem is that when the wiper stops the 3 wipe wash it will end up at any random position. Sometimes it stops pointing up (vertical) or diagonal. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.
A guess I have, though, is that if the wiper switch is stuck to the wash position. Therefore, the LR3 control software might be just killing the program since it thinks the wash switch is being held too long, or rather a better way to put it is that it is programmed only to wash for so long no matter how long you hold down the wash switch. A sort of safety measure to prevent it from continuing to wipe indefinitely. Therefore, if I replace the switch it might fix this. Someone might be able to confirm this for me by holding their rear wiper wash switch down for 20 seconds. If I am right it should only wash for about half that time and shut off.
That brings up another point I should mention. I just learned after I posted the first post. When I turn on the ignition the washer fluid also pumps out for a long time. (I think this is also being ‘killed’ as it is a good 5-8 seconds of pumping) I was unaware of this because I had a reservoir leak I just fixed. Again this points to the wash switch being broken so that it is stuck in the wash position
Hopefully, a new switch will solve both of my rear wiper problems

So I did sort out the rear washing/wiping upon turning on the ignition. The problem was the wiper switch. It was broken and stuck in the wash position.
However, I am still having the issue where when I turn on the wiper it wipes for 3-4 wipes and the stops at a random position. It I turn it off and back on again it does the same thing ending up in a completely different position. The fault that the IIDtool show is in the screen shot below. I don’t know exactly what that means other than the wiper is not ‘parking’ correctly. And I already knew that. ;-)
I had the same problem and failure code. I replaced the motor assembly with a used one I was able to test in situ on the donor LR3. Cleared the code after installation and it's working fine. I read somewhere the internal plastic gears wear or break and allows the wiper to go out of time... hence the park position failure.
