Default LR3 Receiver Hitch Question

I just bought a 2007 LR3 and it came with the hitch pictured. I just learned it has a built-in hitch that appears to be a much better solution than

what is installed now. My question is can I just remove the hitch installed in the photo? Why would someone have installed it rather than use the Land Rover hitch that's built-in?

In short, who knows.
People see the weird different removable thingy and think it can't possibly be strong enough.
But I guarantee, LR spent a ton more $ on design and testing for use on their specific vehicles, than whoever made that one did.

The 1st gen LR hitch inserts got a bad rep due to being a "potato plow" and possible cracking.
3rd gen are stubby and more robust (solid).

Some hate the LR version, some love it.
I have had no issues with my 3rd gen LR insert, and love the removability.
Just don't leave it in all the time - only use when towing.

I say, remove that one and get the LR one (they come up used from time to time).
Your PO didn't even seem to do the wiring very well - should be 4 and 7 pin, up in the left hole under the plastic cover.

Thanks, Doug, I really like the fact that it's removable. I'm guessing the previous owner was not a big off-roading person. The benefit of being able to remove it is worth a lot to me, I'll be looking for one!

Thats a much better tow bar than what the poms fit, i would leave it on. Doesn't look to reduce clearance by much.

Personally, I'm one of the ones that doesn't fully trust the removable ones, so I installed a frame bolt on Curt hitch.
