I’ve got two tow hooks, they look identical other than the size. One is a bit larger than the other, making that one longer, or maybe the drop longer. These are not the rounded J hook with ball.
The bigger one came on my ‘05 and the smaller one on my ‘08.
Other than size/drop, what’s the difference? Is it payload capacity or something else?
I’m looking to sell one but want to make sure I keep the one that serves my needs best.
I think they're the same specs just the smaller one is a newer version and is more preferred over the bigger one. But they should have the same load capacity and everything.
I am pretty sure the large one was part of a recall in the UK, other countries I dont think had a recall. Not that they are any safer in other countries. The issue is cracking and latching pin not setting right, resulting in the unit falling out.
It wasn’t officially a recall but a service action, see https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/q393-...er-121876.html. Here in Finland (and Scandinavia) the same towbar is supposedly completely ok - I checked with LR country organization - while in UK it was indeed subject to replacement…… people towing a lot have replaced the swan neck one with a more robust towbar and/or gotten a towbar locking plate.
Long version is from the D3 and the short one is from the D4, in the UK they use the full 1 piece cast goose neck with ball and the 50mm receiver as used in US and Aus wasn't available.
