I know it would take me a few hours. There is just a lot of little junk in the way that has to be moved out of place first, then put back. I dont believe its a difficult job. The spark plug towers also have o-rings that should be replaced I believe. Unless those are park of the gasket set maybe? All I know is I will be doing this job this year too.

There seemed to be quite a few things in the way including the dip stick section he said.
He changed the O Rings you mention as well...but now the Thermostat & Housing has to be changed
as after the job coolant leak there. But this same Thermostat he had siliconed together a year and a half ago
as it was a fairly new one that was a defect which was put in elsewhere that started leaking in less than a year.
How long do these 4.4 V8's last if well maintained ? Thanks

Forever.

....I'd get a new thermostat if I were you. "Siliconing" it together doesn't sound like a good plan.

Put it this way: When I bought mine 18 months ago, I struggled to find one under 120k miles, most were beyond 175k and many were over 200k. I know someone with a 2005 with over 300k on original drivetrain.

Silicone, seriously? First, use OEM only. If it cracked shortly after install it was aftermarket. And yes, well maintained they will easily surpass 300k miles. There are always exceptions, that one small defect form day one that shows its head at 225k no matter how well maintained. But on the whole, the 4.4 is an incredibly solid engine with no known major defect. Its issues are minor and easily fixable and all pretty much external to the core of the engine.

The Thermostat & Housing the previous people put in 2 years ago started to soon leak which I ended up taking to this present guy
and it looked to me like a thing that was in two halves with some sort of seal ..it was leaking from all around the body..this present mechanic
siliconed it with some black stuff and I asked him to order a new part (even though previous was under warranty with other people but I didn't want to go back to them again at that point.
But he said lets see this should hold better than how it was. So for about two years it was ok until just now.
We took it in he re Siliconed it to get us through the weekend as we needed car, it held good..by Monday he had part we took it in, and he installed it.
He knows I want only OEM and it cost us exactly what the Atlantic British oem part cost.
The other people we used to go to knew we only wanted oem or equal but they didn't respect or take us seriously
telling us the car is old get another car. A ridiculous situation all around we almost blew our engine because of those jokers
in another situation. Thanks for everything you guys always are the greatest help...you guys and Atlantic British.

Default It's back

Revival of previous thread as problem of leaking valve cover has re emerged.
I originally ordered Valve Cover Gaskets from Atlantic British but when I got them mechanic said where is the rest it comes as a kit with other parts.
So I returned gaskets and mechanic got the "kit".
Now it's leaking again. It lasted maybe a year and a half or two.
There's some mention of valve cover not tightening down all the way or warping of the valve covers ?
Can someone please advise a permanent solution Thank you

Hi did you do the valve cover gaskets yet?
Mine were done and are now leaking again. Mechanic got the kit I didn't buy them cause Atlantic British said they didn't know what kit was

No. And the only "kit" I would know of is the valve cover gasket's along with spark tower o-rings. Because they should all get replaced. It would be odd that the failed, are you 100% valve cover and not some other issue?
