Hi..yes mechanic said Valve Cover Gasket leaking and that " we already did that".
Chip at Atlantic British says after this many miles (219k) the Valve Covers gets warped. ?
Dakota..I just ordered new Gaskets..Chip says smear some sealant under over gasket when putting new ones on. I'm thinking to get some Valve Covers. When redoing the Gaskets should the tower o rings be changed again ?

If I was doing them over, I would replace the orings again. Just to be safe. Also you maybe can check for warpage with a metal straight edge. And I bet a shop could easily plane them flat. They are not like a head that has to be perfect.

Just a note on using silicone (RTV) on gaskets. Put a thin coat of RTV on both sides, fasten the pieces together but only snug up bolts. Don't fully tighten as that just sqeezes out the RTV. Let it set up and then tighten.

So true. Many people slap crap on and crank er down almost defeating the point of the sealant acting as a backup gasket. One a side note, they make RTV that sets in a minute and can be put into service right after install. This is stuff you dont mess around with, 1 minute is not a lot of time to get the part in place and torqued. But unlike others, most let you fire up the engine right away. Many others require 12 or more hours to fully cure before it should be exposed to fuel/oil/etc.

He used a special sealant this time as well.

If the covers are warped, I would think not by much. You can verify by just setting them on a very flat surface and see if a feeler gauge fits under certain spots. And a machine shop could probably plane em. They are are not a critical fit item.

Question Gasket Orientation

Which orientation should the new gaskets go on? Picture 1 or Picture 2? I'm getting leaks using picture 1 but it seems like the logical orientation.
Picture 1, fits easily into the cover channel
Picture 1, fits easily into the cover channel
Picture 2: Fits very snug into the channel
Picture 2: Fits very snug into the channel

Top photo is correct, but I see score marks on the gaskets, like damage.... These are new, if so what brand? if URO, then that will be at least one issue. Also are you applying the proper sealant to the prescribed locations? I think its only two spots per cover on the head itself. Pretty much the spot you have in the photos with the wider bit. Did you replace the spark tower o-rings also?

yes, no leaks in spark tubes. Just one spot on the lower part leaks after tightening Maybe I will just use sealant in those areas where it is leaking. These were new Land Rover gaskets. But I have put them on and taken them off at least 3 times trying to fix the leak.
I'm afraid that my plastic valve covers may be warped a little and not maintaining a tight enough seal in that one spot.
