LR3 VCT VVT Solenoid
Hey guys, Im new here and excited about my latest purchase. Got an 09 LR3 (4.4) with 60K miles on it. I'm getting a rattle on cold start up that clears up in 1-2 seconds and then the engine sounds smooth as butter. I'm fairly certain its the drivers side VVT/VCT solenoid, however I can't find any resources on replacing it. Have any of you had and/or addressed this problem in your LR3? Thanks!
...it's the VVT gear. It's out of round. I have the same thing happening on my '06. The fix is quite expensive and the long term effects are unknown. At least one owner ran his like that for 50,000 miles and eventually just had it fixed because it annoyed him.
Its hard to believe that its the gear and not the solenoid. The engine only has 60k miles and I can feel the solenoid rattling when I start it. After 1-2 seconds, there is no rattle or noise.
I'd love to be wrong. I'd be an ******* though if I encouraged you to spend $1000 on the solenoid so you could troubleshoot for me. I know it's the gear. The best Tech I know described it perfectly before I could elaborate and told me what it is. The two historical posts I found (google it) described it to a T.
I don't think it's a function of mileage. I was a jackass and ran my '06 low on oil. I didn't smell any oil, I didn't see any drops anywhere ever...so I didn't realize that it was consuming oil. I have to think that this contributed to the VVT getting out of round. Yeah...I check that **** all the time now.
I know it's not what you want to hear. Sorry man.
