OK folks.... needs some advice on this one. Driving today and she was going just fine. No engine issues ever with this truck. While accelerating from a light, power was a bit low. Then a quick flash of the check engine light. Light when out, but still said "engine fault" in the screen. A few miles down the road, while under load again, I noticed a large amount of smoke behind it.
Did the same thing all the way home, but the engine light never came on. Dropped off the family, and messed around a little bit. Under hard throttle, finally got the light to come on and stay on. Ran the codes, and got misfires on 2, 4, 6, 8 as well as a random misfire code. The smoke is heavy under load, but does not smell like either coolant or oil to me. Oil looks fine, coolant looks fine.
Any ideas on where to start? I read many misfire threads, but the others didn't mention smoke too. All on one bank makes me scratch my head. It was super cold here the last couple nights. Truck is an 06 with 110K.

Have you ever changed your plugs? Or have a fuel system flush?

 

Plugs were done a while back. Fuel system has not been flushed, but I use seafoam every so often as well as Lucas. It came on too quick for it to be any spark plug issue, and if a fuel issue it would be odd for it to be on 2/4/6/8 and not others. I'm going to grab a new PCV valve tomorrow...just have a feeling I might be sucking in oil there.

 

Well, if you're showing misfire codes on 2/4/6/8 then I'd suspect wiring to that side of the motor is a good place to start. I really doubt it's a plug or fuel issue. To loose an entire bank at once makes me suspicious of electrical. The other suspicion is a head gasket but I wouldn't expect that as it's not common on this motor and you wouldn't loose 4 cylinders at once; maybe two. You'd also likely have overheating and other problems like water in the oil. So I say start with electrical to that half of the motor.

 

What color is the smoke? White- coolant Grey/Black- fuel Blue- oil

 

Most likely your LR3 crankcase valve on the passenger side valve cover need replacing.
