Default More issues…HDC etc

More codes! Oh boy.

so this is a continuation of the engine fault issue I have been having, and although that specific code has not reared its head. I have now had
codes that relate HDC - not available etc but usually a restart of the car removes them (or use the gap tool to clear). The last times these occurred the error remained (christmas tree). However some times it just bings and momentarily then goes back to normal - all modes selectable.

I have found these faults occur in two ways - perhaps incidental …maybe not

1) going up an incline - loses power then errors
2) hitting a bumps - like a road expansion joint
3) almost always when the car is in motion.

here’s the codes ( I have no handbrake - ignore this)

Default A quick look at the DTC codes in the service manual says...

I know this is a long reply, but I have highlighted the basic idea in each DTC. These are s some ideas based upon the Service manual:

U0132-XX-
Check the air suspension control module power and ground circuits for open circuit
Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the high speed CAN bus circuit for short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, high resistance
Check the air suspension control module for related DTCs and refer to the relevant DTC index

U0416-86-
Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check anti-lock brake system control module power and ground circuits for open circuit.
Check CAN harness between engine control module and anti-lock brake system control module, repair as necessary
Clear the DTCs, drive the vehicle at greater than 11mph (17kph) with a throttle pedal greater than 10% for greater than 1 second. Press the brake pedal, using maximum travel for greater than 1 second. Check the system is operating correctly and the DTC does not return.
(I would also clean all of the wheel speed sensors)

P0116-24-
Leave vehicle turned off for a minimum of 8 hours and allow to soak to a stable temperature. Check datalogger signals - Ambient Air Temperature - (0xF446) - Engine Coolant Temperature (0xF405) - Boost Air Temperature - Raw physical value (0x0341) - Intake Air Temperature (0xF40F) - Engine Coolant Temperature #2 (0x0489). All sensors should be within 20 degºC of each other Inspect connectors for signs of water ingress, and pins for damage and/or corrosion Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check connections are secure and wiring integrity Check and install a new sensor that is biased higher or lower than the other sensors

C1B02-16-
NOTE: After clearing the DTCs, the warning indicator(s) may not extinguish until the vehicle speed has exceeded 10mph (15kph).
Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the anti-lock brake system hydraulic control unit pump circuit for short circuit to ground, open circuit, high resistance (I would also clean all of the wheel speed sensors)

P0420-00- NOTE: Monitor description. Oxygen storage capacity of the catalyst too low
Check the induction system for air leaks
Check the ignition system for causes of misfire
Carry out oil consumption checks
Confirm with the customer that the correct fuel has been used (I had this code on my 2007 and found that it came and went based upon the winter/summer blend of gas that I used. I would put a bottle of Mr. Gasket Cat cleaner in it and it would go away for 4-6 months)

I know there is a lot here, but you gave us a lot to look at.
Hope this helps
Jeff

Thank you for the reply. That is great - a lot to take in but great.

I'll work through and report back. I'm starting to wonder if something it either rubbing and/or having momentary loss of signal.

A few notes off the bat:
  • This is a V6. Premium fuel "recommended" but am wondering (and perhaps thought - incorrectly) that the V6 was a regular unleaded ok type engine. That could explain the codes. Although last fill was mid grade 89.
  • engine control module and anti-lock brake system control module - the ECM is the one behind the battery? and the ALBSCM where the brakes are (opposite side of the engine bay..)
  • last one... the air sus control module is where...just to confirm it's on the drivers side (left) A pillar?

Thanks.

Try premium fuel, then Mr. Gasket converter cleaner then an adapter to move the O2 sensor slightly out of the exhaust flow. Do you spend a lot of time in stop and go traffic? If so it may be that the converter just does not get hot enough to work properly.

The engine ECM is located in the E-Box in the plenum area on the LH side of the engine compartment attached to the bulkhead. ( I think this would be below and behind the brake mater cylinder)
The ABS ECU is located in the left covered area right in front of the brake master cylinder.
The air suspension control module is located behind the instrument panel, on the driver's side 'A' post. The control module is attached to the 'A' post with a single screw and two plastic clips. The connector (C2030, 2320, 2321 & 0867) are located behind the left footwell kick panel.
