Default More Starting Issues

Hey guys. Ran into this problem a second time. Wife went to start the LR3 and nothing was working. Not the key fob, none of the electrical, nothing.

When I got there I immediately hooked it up to my trucks battery. This time nothing was coming on when I turned the key except for some lights flickering. Airbag light was flickering, and nav screen was flickering. I shifted into reverse, then back into park and it started right up.

My initial thought was that the vehicle probably has a safety on it that wont allow it to start if it doesn't think it is in park. Im not so sure that's the case anymore as it has happened 4 times now. LR dealer wants $120 just to diagnose the issue. No thank you. Id like to work this out myself with the help of your great minds.

Thanks

Once the initial restart problem is fixed, if you try and start with the selector in anything other than N or P, do you see the same flickering ? I think probably not. Which would suggest that it's not the Park inhibit switch at work. How's the battery ? The LR can be pretty hard on a "on its way out" one and maybe the alternator isn't able to keep it topped off. Try and get some fault codes pulled (if any) as they can give clues...

If the LR is out of warranty, find a good independent shop instead of the dealer...

x2 on checking the charging system. Both the LR3 and DII will do weird things when the battery is on its way out. In your case, you should have some electrical systems functioning even if it was a safety switch.

Also, have you had any water ingress issues? Feel the passenger footwell carpet, or just pull up the mat if you have rubber ones the next time you wash the truck or it rains. If water has gotten down there you could have a big job ahead of you.

Thanks for the help. I ended up cleaning the posts and terminals. In that process found the positive cable to be slightly loose but wouldnt tighten. Put a pair of vice grips on there to clamp it and she fired right up with no warnings other than my TPMS. (Already know the cause of this issue) Lots of frustration for something easy.
