What issues is the truck having?

 

I just bought it. After driving it off the check engine light came on. I became concerned, and got the codes read: https://imgur.com/a/T0YiUcz

After that I took it to a Land Rover specialist from which I got the above quotes.

Then I got a repair estimate (above) from a Land Rover specialist.

 

Alternator bearings are going out, makes a whining noise.

Radiator upper plastic fitting is deteriorated and the hose is backing off.

Expansion tank sensor is broken, says low coolant when it has coolant.

Upper radiator hose plastic section leaking.

Water crossover leaking.

Suggested to do water pump at same time as other repairs.

 

Those prices look pretty good, to me!

 

I don't know about all that, you've got way too many codes to indicate a legitimate problem. Codes need to be cleared and you need to see what comes back, I would imagine the lean codes are what's triggering your CEL, a lot of the other things look like they could be caused by a low battery at some point in the trucks life. I'd do a lot more diagnostics before I paid that much for a service right after purchasing the vehicle.

Also, 300 for an OEM alternator? Yeah, surely that's not going to be OEM, those go for twice that from what I've seen, if it is 300, I'll order one from them. Looks to be like you're being shafted.

 

I would note that all the urgent repairs are coolant related and I think it is on point. Also the shop in question has a stellar reputation within the community. I don't think it would be as well loved and recommended if it behaved in the manner you are suggestsuggesting.

Look, I don't know this shop and I'm judging accordingly. OP has posted no symptoms, only the CEL was on. He has a million codes, something isn't right here.

Maybe they're spot on, maybe not, either way I'd clear everything, see what comes back, look for evidence of leaks in the engine bay, and drive at least 20 miles before I accepted any of that. If there are coolant leaks, you will be low on coolant, that for instance is easy to check on a cold engine. Start there, the markings are right on the reservoir.

I can clear the mysteries for you @Identamerican . Yes lots of dubious codes and I am not suggesting any repairs based off of those. In fact the lean code was not present when he brought the vehicle in.

First repair quote- is for the failing alternator which is making a bearing squeal, at the time I tested it is putting out proper voltage, But I suspect its fluctuating and regardless the bearings are toast. All the coolant repairs are visibly needed based on leaks.

Second Repair Quote- CV on Driveshaft is failing, Trans sleeve is leaking, and the lower control arms are knocking like nobody's business.

Third repair quote- All fluids and a BG induction service which is normal part when a new owner starts his life with a vehicle that has no maintenance history.

NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THESE REPAIRS IS BASED ON CODES!
