Got the keys cut, the batteries have arrived from England, so after first finding/fixing the problems with my X-Trail will be using the fancy IIDTool BT to program them all, hopefully within a week. Got the keys cut at "Lock Surgeon" on 118 Ave in West Edmonton and a perfect fit, the fellow even tried them in the ignition and door lock (lubed the door lock) to guarantee the fit. After trying to deal with other local locksmiths and failing, I'd recommend these folks if you are in this area and need to get a sidewinder key cut. Now I just have to unsolder the old batteries, solder the new, and find out if there are any other electronics related errors before re-programming them all.
