Default New EAS Fault...it's a dandy

Hi all,

I just got new tires put on the '06. I drove off, everything was awesome....then BING I get a suspension fault. I read it....C-something or other and it pointed at the right rear height sensor mechanism being problematic. EAS still raised and lowered fine. Fault cleared with the GAP, but then came back. Then I cycled power and it went away but I have not checked to see if it will come back again after that. One other note: I am using my spare key FOB and even though I glued the casing, it's not closed very tight. Not sure if that could foul up a signal. Since this happened on the way back from Discount Tire, I figure it's related.

Okay brain trust....whaddaya got? loose rod? Height sensor jarred loose or twisted? Those rear sensors are not as exposed as the fronts, I'm not sure what they could have done! If it was the wires themselves I'd think the fault would be non-clearable, as it was when I ripped the wiring run out in the front last summer.

Thanks, Houm

Definitely give it a visual inspection. I think its too deep inside the suspension to be susceptible to getting bumped by wheel R&R, but you never know. I see all kinds of stuff that defies logic.

It could be that the sensor was going out and raising it moved the arm outside its normal range of motion, finishing it off.

Typically if the sensor bracket or rod gets tweaked, it sets a "cross articulation" fault. To single out a specific sensor usually means open or shorted circuit. Sensors are cheap, if you inspect the connector and there is no corrosion, you might want to just throw a sensor at it. If you have the GAP tool, you should be able to run a suspension calibration.

Yep....I have sensors and I have a GAP Tool so I can do that. I agree that a bent bracket or damage to the sensor would drive a cross-articulation fault. Didn't see that.

Also, my wife drove it later with the primary key and she didn't observe the fault. I'll keep digging.

Key won't have anything to do with it.

I have gotten a odd ball fault code on the 07 after I have all 4 wheels in the air 2 times but never during normal use. Never comes back no idea what caused it.

my new to me 06 is going to cause more than a few EAS threads as it is currently on the bump stops and not able to get it’s fat but off the ground lol. Blew a line or bag up front, haven’t had time to dig in and look yet

I only see lines go out on full size Rover (L322) due to battery acid leaking on the lines under the battery tray. Interesting to see what you find.

I watched it come up to ride height as I paid for it, heard a loud pop and the front left dropped to the bump stop lol. Seller had this look like he isn’t going to buy it after all. I shrugged and drove it on the trailer

It happens from time to time. Heck at Rovers on the Rocks I got a suspension fault warning in my coil over truck that said it was lowering the suspension lol
