New Key

New Key
I have a Disco 3. I purchased through Land Rover a new key. LR couldn't get it to start the vehicle. I have also tried 2 separate auto electricians. They both tell me that the vehicle recognises the key and the dashboard lights up but it doesn't start nore does it lock and open the doors if you press the appropriate button. Any suggestions why this is happening?

If you have a GAP tool or similar, you can pull codes. If the key is not valid it will throw a code - actually my valid key occasionally throws a code too, but I digress. But other than that idea, what Doug said. If its not starting the vehicle, sounds like a bad key. The remote function is separate from the starting functions. The remote functions not working can actually be from bad programming OR a truck issue with a wire that commonly fails at a joint, forum is full of info on that repair.

Thanks for this.
Key is a genuine LR from the UK with VIN. Key cut in UK prior to sending it. LR spent 90 minutes trying and in the end said that the equipment that they have (new dealership 3 years) was not really compatible with the older vehicles and I need to find some one or dealer that has a T4 coder. Think the best thing is to go back to LR and see what they are going to do. They should have a GAP tool.

They will NOT have a GAP tool.
The best thing to do is for you to get a GAP tool, then use it to program your key (paying for part of the cost of the GAP) and then living happily ever after.
Also, make sure they (the dealership) didn't take a red cent from you! It's asinine that they can't program a key FOB.
