Default New key fob shell; 2007 LR3 won't start

I got a new key fob shell for my 2007 LR3. Took apart the original key fob, installed both the old chip and the old key in the new shell.

It will lock and unlock the doors using the buttons, and the key will turn in the ignition, but when I try to actually start the vehicle, it won't do anything.

Ideas?

To be clear - it won't autostart with a button, or the physical key won't start the engine?

Physical key won't start the engine. Does everything else. It turns on the "accessories", locks/unlocks the doors, etc. Everything but start the engine.

A moot point now......$670 later I have ordered 2 brand new keys from Bear Valley Land Rover in Roswell GA and am waiting for them to arrive.

I am sure you are aware, they still need to be programmed to your vehicle.

Yup. When the keys arrive at Bear Valley, I'll have my LR towed over there for programming.

Yep......PITA. My insurance company will reimburse me for the towing, but still a hassle.

Thanks for the help so far, guys.

I think he messed up the immobilizer chip when swapping the case, necessitating purchasing two new keys from the dealer. Which, of course, requires programming.

Sucks, but splitting that case requires a lot of time and patience. No matter of prying or slicing would get my case open. I had to take a hacksaw blade and work my way slowing and carefully around the perimeter. It took much longer than it should have.

I have severely cut myself on 2 occasion opening up the cases. I offer a remote refurbish service where I open case, solder a new battery, and replace with new case. I charge $100, which I am starting to think is too cheap! Its a pain...
