New Owner - '05 SE w/ 79k
First of all, thanks for all the contributions to this forum. I've been a LR forum lurker for years - I know that sounds sad but I've driven a lifted Jeep WK (Limited w/ Hemi 5.7 and QDII) for years but have always liked Land Rovers.
So a few weeks ago I finally found one that fit my mileage and pricing criteria. It has a great service history and is VERY clean. I drove it to an indy European shop for a full inspection, and they provided me with a comprehensive list of the items it needed, and also told me it needed the 75k service. I used the items they provided as ammunition during the haggling process with the dealer, and walked away happy with the sale. None of the items are that bad, and most I can handle myself.
My goal at this point is to have the truck ready for the 1300 mile jaunt from Alabama to Maine by the end of June, which should be no problem at all as long as there are no surprises over the next few months.
So far, I've done the following:
1. Cleaned the sunroof drains (still need to inspect outlet on passenger side behind vent). I was able to get water to pour through but not satisfied until I lay eyes on the outlet.
2. Repaired poor splice job in passenger door sill when fob stopped working. (fixed!)
3. Locked keys in the car after repairing said splice job. (D'oh!)
4. Lubricated and tightened rear wiper arm, since it wouldn't make a complete pass across the rear glass. (fixed!)
5. Purchased RSW Solutions 4Dcan software and ELM327 OBDII module. I was able to see and clear the 3 stored faults. I've been having an amber "Park Brake" light illuminate after a couple of minutes of driving, so tonight I cleared that and we will see if it comes back tomorrow.
Short term plans at the moment are as follows:
1. Change diff and t-case fluids - I have the RP 75W-90 and Synchromax in the garage ready to go.
2. Change cabin filter
3. Investigate rear parking sensors - they are non-functional and the pushbutton light flashes rapidly when the vehicle is first started. I can push the button and the flashing stops, but no response from the sensors while in reverse.
4. Adjust EPB. I can hear some slight rubbing at low speeds.
5. Obtain a hitch of some kind, original is not present in the boot. What an odd hitch receiver design!
Longer term plans include:
1. Change front diff breather cap - I've heard there's a new part to replace the initial design.
2. Change out thermostat housing/thermostat - the current one is just now starting to weep a little coolant (maybe one drop every 2 mins) through a small crack in the plastic.
Now, as if this post wasn't long enough, here are my questions if anyone is still with me!
1. Adjusting EPB - Is there anything special I need to do to it before I adjust, or can I just jack it up and go? I think I've read somewhere a special "service mode" to put it in or something.
2. The air suspension - after about 30 minutes or so after shutting off engine it blows of a bunch of air and settles. Is this normal or do I have a leak somewhere and the "auto leveling" feature is just trying to keep up?
Again, thanks for all the info on this and other forums you guys post on. It can certainly be considered "paying it forward!". So far I love the truck and the ride quality is amazing.
