Default New Pair of tires up front or in rear?

I got a flat tire on my LR3 and ruined the sidewall. Only drove it like 50 feet on it but the weight must have ruined it.

Anyway I have Perelli zeros 255/55/19s. The other tires are in decent shape so I decided to buy just a pair, leaving me 3 good old ones. One of the three will go on my extra rim as a spare.

So is it best to put the new ones in the front or rear?

Discount tire fellow was not sure he thought the rear would be best.

Always put your better tires up front, and do not mix brands / sizes or types. I use discount tire as well. You can also ask them for the heavy duty valve stems...

how about a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers. In 5 years, I've had 2 air leaks as a result of nails that were excessively long, over an inch and a half. But i've removed more than 20 with no loss of air.

THanks, I'll have them put up front.

I'm thinking of getting Nokian WR2s as they are better in the winter and can be driven in the summer as well.

But that pucture proof feature of the Grapplers is nice. Pain in the *** fixing a flat on a 90 degree highway.

I thought the grapplers were more of a off road tire. I do more in the snow/ice/rain than offroad so I thought the Nokians would be best for my needs. The Perellis are ok, smooth on the highway so so in the winter.

I looked up the grapplers, they don't seem to come in a 19" size. Nice tire.

Actually on full time 4wd you really shouldn't put just two on.... but in this case, I'd probably chance it.

Also new tires go on the rear, for handling issues. If you have more traction up front, you run the risk over over-steer in poor weather or aggressive driving. Not a huge issue with 4wd and you probably aren't' going to drive an LR3 like a Corvette, but many tire shops will try to make your rotate the new tires to the back, if buying just two.

Do they come in 18' 10 ply?

Rajad there are a few people selling 18" rims around, it shouldn't be hard to find a set. I've got 5 extra but I don't want to ship them, plus 2 are kinda scuffed up.

Not sure; mine are fitted to my 19" rims and only go on the LR3 in winter. For me I don't need a 10-ply since they stay on pavement (or pavement with snow and ice on it). I have the MT/Rs on the rest of the time.

Man those two tires were not cheap. Two perelli zeros 19" for over 700.00 USA.

I did pay like 70.00 extra for insurance. but still steep for two tires.

They told me the old spare (temp tires) not really repairable so I gave them that rim, and my old toyo tire too.

They put the new tires up front. The rears are almost like new, just a little more tread wear. I don't see how this will be an issue because its AWD. People drive with bald tires and somehow make it around.

Now I have a full sized spare and it fit with my trailer hitch on.

I looked under the car at the full sized spare. He put it on with the good side facing down. Seems like that would pick up more dents vs if it were good side up. I think the mini spare was put in with the ouside of the rim facing up too.

Does it matter much? I guess I was thinking it will get beat up more with the good side facing down.
