Default Newbie hoping for your opinion

Hello I am a newbie and was looking at a 2006 D3 at a local dealership. The car has 95000 miles and is a SE model with the 4.4 v8. The asking price is 149870.00. I checked out the air ride suspension and looked at the color of the fluids along wtih checking underneath for leaks on the ground. I know this is probably one of the higher mileage D3's. They quoted me a price of 1500.00 for a 12/12000 miles powertrain warranty and 4750 for a 2/24 bumper to bumper both with a 100 deductible. I can typically work on my own cars such as; 04 Jeep liberty 06 Jeep Grand Cherokee 06 Mustang GT and a 86 Mustang 5.0. How much harder are these to work on and how reliable are they , if you keep up on the preventive maintence. Any advice would be very welcome...
Thank You

Well first of all I'd never pay $149, 870 for an LR3, new or used.

Joking aside, "reliable" measured by how often it leaves you stranded I think the LR3 is good. Reliable measured by how much time it spends in the shop, and not so good. It, to me, is a vehicle that requires a lot of care 'n feeding. I would not own one without a warranty (if possible) and I would not own one if I didn't intend to take it off-road.

Off-road is where it shines and where an owner will experience the joy of having the vehicle in the first place. Without that side of the equation, ownership would be all pain, no gain.

That's my $0.02....and it's worth $149,870.00.

Thank you for your direct insight ... Truth is I have never owned a non-domestic car before. I am just a lttle nervous and I dont really mind caring and feeding a car either . I looked at a 09 Treg 2 , but backed out when I thought they had even more issues than the LR3...

Lots of research can be done here. That's what I've been doing. Start compiling that "what to check" and "what to ask" lists.

I myself just got a new/used LR3 2006 4.4 liter v8 HSE with 90,000 miles for a little under 17,000 buckaroos 4 months ago. The only maintenance I've done to it so far is brake switch change, air/oil filter, engine oil, diff oil, diff breather, thermostat, new window cowl (insurance covered) and the a pillar water leak mod. For the aftermarket stuff, I got lift rods, installed a floor for my expedition rack and installed a rear view camera. The LR3 is a great/safe/fun truck. I've owned a Disco 2 before this truck. They both have their own quirks but if you stay on top of maintenance these babies will run for a long long time.
