Default Not Starting

All of a sudden my '05 LR3 will not start? Actually it will start for a few seconds and then stalls out. Not sure what could have gone wrong. It was and has been fine and I've never had this issue before with it. I'm overdue for my 60,000 service, but other than that it has been regularly maintained.

There are no codes that show up on the information panel on the dash, but the check engine, battery and oil lights are lit up when i'm trying to start it. Not sure if these always light up when started and then go off?

Any suggestions or input would be appreciated. I disconnected and reconnected the battery to try and reset the system, but it didn't change anything

Thanks,
Jason

put only premium fuel in it for one. try and get pure premium without ethanol if you are using cheap gas.

if it aint the gas and you are sure you didnt get cheap gas then make sure the oil cap is on and or the air filter hose is tight. it will shut off with a slight leak.

if thats not the case check fuel pressure.

Always use premium gas in the LR3 and all my vehicles. I'll take a look at the air filter hose tomorrow. Not sure how to check the fuel pressure on this thing.

One thing that I don't think is related, but i'll mention anyway is that I have been hearing a chirping or cricket type of noise inside the car when the heat is on from what I assume is the heater fan. It only happens every once in a while and has been starting to occur more frequently. To describe it better it sounds like the blades of a fan are lightly hitting something. I assumed something just needs to be lubricated, but could it be related?

The chirp is a pulley making noise. needs a new updated pulley but you have to grind a bit away to get the noise to go away.

Its a V8 right?

if everything is right have it looked at by a dealer they can see all the info coming at them to get an accurate picture.

Yes it's a V8.
I inspected the air intake hose and air filter this morning and everything looks fine. I have a K&N air filter which I thought may have been clogged or dirty and it's actually clean as can be.
Are there any other items I could check quickly with limited mechanic skills and without diagnostic equipment? Is the MAP or MAS (not sure which type the LR3 has) sensor known for going bad? I'm referring to the sensor between the air filter and the intake just incase I'm calling it by the wrong name.

Thanks again,
Jason

Could be your K&N filter. I know of a few people that have installed K&N filters only to have their MAF sensor crap out. Land Rover recommends only the stock paper filter. Same is true with my 2005 MB C230

get it out there, the k and n. These vehicles are so sensitive its not funny. leave off the oil cap and it wont start.

Dont mess around with the JAG engines. use LR parts or the equivalent and you will be fine.

actually the 60k is an air filter, pollen filter and a lof and rotation.

oh and we reset the maintenance light with our machine.

next time you hear the squeak, turn on the recirc button. if you hear a slight squeak or shunt noise its the arm on the door. you can grease up the arm with special grease but trust me have the dealer tech do it. its not bad but you got to know what to do and practice it a bit before doing it. There is a bulletin about it. Previously we were removing the dashboard and changing the little arm but they got a fix for thank god.
