Default Oil filter

Did a search and didn't find the same topic...so:

I was at Wal Mart yesterday, and for fun decided to see what oil filter I needed. The 4.0L engine was listed as a MotorCraft 820S, and the 4.4L under it was left blank, so is it safe to assume that the 4.4L is the same filter?

Thanks for putting up with all my questions.

BTW....I see you're in Indiana, I'm from Lake County Indiana!

I am about 2.5 hours east on US 30 in Warsaw. By the way, most on here swear by Mobil 1 or K&N OIL filters NAPA/Wix is another good one. Try to avoid Wal Mart as Fram etc are known for leaky anti siphon valves. You don't want any excess wear on these rigs as costly as repairs are.

Go to your local parts store and buy either a Mobil 1 or a K&N oil filter or their equal. In the case of the Disco's and other Rovers, you can also buy a over sized oil filter for the same money.

I'm a Napa filter guy. They're made by Wix which also makes filters for high demand industrial applications. Fram is a marketing company who sources their filters from several manufacturers and several folks have had problems with elements collapsing, etc, and Wix is an R&D and manufacturing company that makes their own stuff.

Mobil1 & K&N are also well regarded but I've had some problems with the latter. Specifically the filter they make for the Mini Cooper (non-cartridge type) includes a seal that does not fit quite right and leaks. YMMV.

The Napa Gold filter is FIL 1372. My local Napa store stocks these.

I'll probably go with the Pureolator Pure one, which is also a Motorcraft I believe. No fram here, won't drive if I have to use one...

Geotrash, thanks for the part #...if I can't get the Pureolator, Napa Gold is my choice.
