Default Old question...hoping for updated results?

Hi all,

I've seen old threads with mixed reviews on whether or not the oil can be sucked out of the LR3's dipstick hole by a Mityvac or equivalent extraction system....has anyone successfully done this? By successful I mean all 8 quarts or close to it....Thanks in advance.

Thats an odd question....

Is this to make oil changes a little less of a hassle? If so I often thought of doing a couple things. First would be to make a removable area on skid plate, an access hatch. Or just even have an opening big enough for one to get a hand in. Then get one of those locking drain valves, for the Rover the 90 degree one is perfect. Simply attach hose then open the valve. No drain plug to remove. So you just need access to attach a hose and open the valve.

Default On my '06

The PO put an oversized plug in the drain. I am hoping the TIMESERT kit will drop right in but if that oversized bolt also means that the hole was drilled out too large, I would consider JB Welding the heck out of it and from then on draining from the top.

Default Thanks man...

I did something similar on my '05. This one is in a different state right now. It's okay, the TIMESERT kit could still work. I'm just looking to see if this is an option.

Extracting the oil this way was problematic for me. I couldn’t get more than five qts no matter how I inserted the hose.

Same for me. Worked great on the BMW...not so great on the LR3. I gave up and do it the old fashioned way...

I have never looked, but is it possible to remove the dip stick and maybe use a suction hose?

Default Interesting idea...

...so rather than putting a sucker hose down the dipstick tube attach a sucker hose with a vacuum seal to the top of the dipstick tube.
