Sorry, let me clarify. I meant to say dipstick tube. The entire tube. Then you have a "port" into the oil pan for a decent size tube which can reach the deep sump bottom.

...did people try to stick the hose down the filler hole?

I assume the OP was asking about the vacuum devices where you send a flexible tube down the dipstick tube after removing the dipstick. When I tried this method with the LR3, the tube must either bump into a baffle or some kind of obstruction because you simply cannot get to the bottom of the drain pan to vacuum out the old oil.

On the BMW that I originally bought it for (a 3-series) it worked GREAT! But no success ever with the LR3.

Well, I can confirm that even at the dealership with their fancy equipment they couldn't get much out of it.

The good news though is that it looks like they will find a TIMESERT that fits. So that's that.....thanks again for the feedback.
