P0171 and P0174 Codes // Lean Bank 1 and 2 (long post)
No Capes? well I guess we can't have it all...That said, if folks are having issues after pretty much tried everything, give the DENSO 1976020 MAF a shot; particularly if emissions/inspections require no CEL illuminated on the dash. In the grand scheme of things, 100 bucks and 2 minutes to swap out the MAF is not a terrible cost to incur for a chance :-)
Thanks all- will post if there is any change, at least I have another 2 years to go before the Fairfax County Department of Environmental Protection comes after me.

A bit like the mother in law, I've come to learn to live with my CEL P170-00 or the various iterations that pop up. I've lived through replacing injectors, gaskets, PCV, MAF, EGR, o2 Sensors, smoke tests etc, and my annual PA emissions test is fast approaching. The last inspection I replaced the EGR and was probably clear of the CEL for 2-3 months, without doubt the longest time in 6 years of ownership.
The latest error, P0170-00 (E8) Fuel Trim (bank 1), pops up pretty quickly after clearing. Checking the FTs, they seem to spike when decreasing speed around 1500rpm then settle once again pretty quickly. This is the only indicator I can see when monitoring FTs.
However, I do have an issue when I have a 1/4 tank of fuel or less, and coming to a stop on a downhill road, the car will stutter or stall. I also get this when going downhill turning right, which leads me to believe I've likely got a failing fuel pump, so this is my next area to address. I don't have the space to do this one myself, so will be one for the shop to switch out when I send it for inspection.
Will keep you posted and update the outcome in a few weeks.

Prior to drop off, I flagged the stall issues when the tank was low and stopping downhill. On scanning, they could see the Fuel Trim Fault on Bank 1, however, they also concluded that all trim levels were within range throughout all load and rpm conditions. The fuel trims at idle are bank 1 4+, bank 2 2+. Like me, they smoke tested the intake for leaks and found nothing. They checked fuel pressure, and it was 78psi (minimum spec is 65psi). EVAP and PCV was disconnected and blocked off to rule out leaks here. They concluded it could be a low fuel volume problem so replaced the pump/filter within the tank. While this resolved the stall issue with had continued to get worse (YAY), the leak condition continued. At this point, they suggested that LR may need to do an update, but they said they would try to program the DME to see if that resolved the CEL. So far, a few hundred miles, NO CEL! Even better, whatever they did fixed my central locking issue that came about after water ingress through a warped cowl!
While in I had a little work done, valve cover gaskets replaced, replace belt drive, new control arms, and the LR3 drives so smoothly a huge noticeable difference. I also have the noisy fan clutch issue but it transpired 3 out of 4 wires (don’t quote me) had been pulled out, so repaired and running so quietly. 148,000 and counting.
I noticed the shop had a Deloren in, so I asked, “What’s worse, “Land Rover or Deloren?” Fair to say LR do not have the title of worst reliability, at least at this shop. 😊
