Default P0659 Tranny fault detected limited gears available...

Ok, so i have a 06 lr3 and just had the 45k mile service thursday. Been driving fine since. Got home today then went out to a frineds, no problem. Went to leave, start the car and get a message Transmission fault detected, limited gears available. Wont shift out of park... pull the codes and its throwing a P0659... Of course seeing as how its 2 in the morning will have to wait a bit to get it towed up to the dealer but was just wondering if anybody was up that might know what the problem could be...

Very simple solution...take off the Lever Stick by pulling it upwards then Remove the Panel surrounding the Lever Stick from the tail. Then you'll see see front of the Selector Stick Housing white plastic manual release lever just press to release the lock..This only will enable you to move the Selector Stick to move the car that's it and the car will be always in First gear. but the solution to have this fault away Remove the Socket of the Selector Stick Housing and you'll some corroded pins. CLEAN them with contact cleaner as well as the pins within the Selector Hosing and that's it...
Enjoy

I drowned my console early last year and it took about 6 months for the problem to arise, I replaced the entire shifter unit along with the short loom that plugs into it as cleaning the pins didn't work, mine would always illuminate D and neither sport mode or command shift would work.

An 06 with 45K ?
The problem is your Rover is lonely, it misses you. You must spend all of your time in something it dislikes.
No seriously, all the above is good advice, they have you on the right track. All I have to offer is a little humor to lighten the day.

Glad that the forum was helpful.
