Park brake trouble
Hi all,
Bit of a different problem here. I have done a bit of research but cannot come up with a solution.
My alternator belt went out prompting a replacement of the belt, alternator and battery (alternator was out of spec and battery was old and due.) While I was troubleshooting the battery voltage was often low prompting all the fault codes in the world to show up on the dash, as is expected from these trucks. The new battery and alternator solved all the fault codes, however the EPB red light stayed flashing. Yellow light is off. I have the error code "Parking brake is off, lift switch to apply." I had previously, during the alternator replacement, thought that I required using the cable release on the EPB. I understand that this message shows when the emergency release cable is pulled, and can be solved by engaging the EPB twice. The problem is... I do not have an EPB. It was causing so many problems and never got used that I removed the hardware. The cable and actuator are present still, however there are no brake shoes etc in the drum.
My question is, then, how do I remove this error code if I cannot engage the EPB?
If I pull up on the switch I get the actuator screeching/engaging noise and the yellow EPB light flashes. Cycling the ignition after this results in the yellow light clearing but the same red light and error message. Several hard resets and battery replacement have not cleared the code.
Suggestions?
Thanks,
