Default Parking Sensor Intermittent Working

2005 LR3 200k miles

I believe that I only have the rear parking sensors. Whenever I shift into reverse, I get a long tone and a flashing orange LED on the parking aid switch, indicating that the parking aid system isn't working. The system works fine every once and a while (once every two weeks).
Also, the side mirrors do not tip down when I shift into reverse, even though they are configured to do so.

I do not have a LR diagnostic tool. I have tried listening for the clicking, but couldn't hear it. Is there any way to troubleshoot this system without a LR specific diagnostic tool?

There is no guesswork on the front sensors, as they are visually seen just as the rear sensors are. When purchased new, my LR3 was missing a sensor in the front bumper, which I didn't realize until a few days later. Don't recall if I got faults or warnings during that short time.

Regarding the mirror dip, you need to program that per the owners manual, not just turn it on via the display. If memory serves, set the memory for normal things, then place the car in reverse, set the mirrors to what you like, and set again. Mine acts up every once in a while, but for the most part works fine.

Also, sounds like your RDC is working per design. The long beep and light tell you it's active. If you want to see if it's working, back up towards an obstacle...just don't accidentally hit it!

^ But the indicator should not flash. Mine does not when working, even with the constant one tone when extremely close to something.

Be careful what you ask for. I enabled the tile mirrors on our Range Rover sport using the gap tool. I really dislike it. I need to disable it. It is awful. Phil

Hmmm....yeah I didn't catch the "flashing" part the first time I read it. I think the indicator does come on solid, but not flashing, agreed. Still suggest getting close to an obstacle and seeing if it beeps.

@houm_wa, it does not beep when I get close to stuff. There is an atlantic british video about this, and it is more or less confirmed that the parking sensor system is indicating a fault. I just dont know how to figure out which sensor is faulty.
