Default Passenger Power Window Not working

Hi there folks. Wondering if someone can point me in the right direction.

My passenger window is rolled down and inoperable. It cannot be controlled from the master (driver) switch or the local switch.

I took the door card off to poke around. Here are some random bits of info.

1. All other windows work from their local switches and the master switch.
2. When I probed one of the master switch harnesses, I was able to roll the DRIVER window up and down. That was fun. Probing any other harness at the driver door did not yield the same results for the passenger window however. Shouldn't it?
3. Fuses checked out fine with my test light (think it was fuse 21 behind the glove box).
4. I can't get the test light to do ANYTHING when i probe the harness that connects to the switch on the passenger side. (Which seems to be the problem, no??)
5. I found the wiring diagram online - but 1). I suck at reading them and 2 - I'm color blind so knowing which wires are what isn't happening.

Whats my next step? I have 248K on this puppy. She's not ready for the wrecker....

Thanks for your guidance.

can you get that motor to operate with direct 12v power?

I'd put power to the motor like Doug said first. If the motor works with direct power then I'd try a new switch.

Well, I am still struggling with this. I'm throwing parts and attempting to pretend i know how to use a test light, but to no avail.
  • I did replace the driver switch. Nothing.
  • I swapped the rear door switch to the front passenger switch (Same connnector) to see if that would get the window moving. It still did not function, which made me think it was NOT the passenger switch.
  • I then tried to power the motor directly. I am NOT confident i did this correctly. There are five pins on the harness. Two were larger - so i assumed there were the ones. NOTHING. So, I said - "Motor is shot".
  • I ordered a motor and put it in. NOTHING.
  • I checked all the fuses again. I tried to unhook harnesses in the passenger foot well to see if I could stumble upon a corroded harness but it's impossible to navigate down there.

Any suggestions??? Does the driver side window ground in a specific place? The wiring diagram speaks of some relay.

All window work fine, except the passenger one.

Maybe disconnect the motor, and try to get it to power on - to confirm it will power on with direct power via the appropriate pins.
And I'm no expert in this, but did you check that the motor has a good ground connection?

Yeah the issue is I am not sure how to check for that.

have you tried holding the window switch in the UP position for some time, to reset it?

this is supposed to be a thing that works for some people

You'll need to do a continuity test with a multimeter. One lead goes on a good ground on any clean piece of unpainted metal on the car, and the other lead goes on the wire that should be ground for the motor (although sometimes motors etc get their ground from where they are bolted on to the vehicle). Should be 0 resistance, aka continuity, between the two points. There are probably other ways if you don't have a multimeter, but they're kind of essential for electrical troubleshooting.

I replaced all fuses just for fun. And I did the hold up for 2+ minute trick. Nothing.

I did spend some time with a test light, understanding what happens in each pin of the switch harness when you hit master switch. The conclusion here is that I have ZERO power or signal (?) at the passenger switch harness. So - It's not the switch or the motor likely.

Where do i go to from here? Trying to trace the wires from the harness through the door into 145,000 wire connectors in the footwell seems absolutely daunting and impossible.

I read somewhere there is a window control unit on the back fire wall, but I don't see anything (And I'm fairly familiar back there as i've change my blower motor twice nice).

Is there a window control unit in this vehicle? ("Window Lift ECU" is what I've read). Even when I part-search that phrase, I get only info on Disco 1's and 2's.

If there is, can anyone help me figure out where it is?

Feeling slightly sad here - my girl has 250K on it and I hate to see a demon like this be the end.

Going to be a little bit of work but someone was nice enough to copy the electrical diagrams to their own one drive page. You can dig through these to find the window diagrams that will show the wires and modules.
