Preventative maintenance advise
Hi, I just purchased my first Land Rover, a 2009 LR3 HSE. I have 170,000 km and want to do some preventative maintenance on it as I'm getting into quite a bit of off-roading and want to minimize breakdowns where I can
. I want to replace the water pump, thermostat assembly, belts, tensioners, idler pulley, heater core (due to lack of heat) and brakes all around. I am planning on getting most parts from FCP euro as their prices seem pretty good, but my local parts store has Saleri water pumps for $65. Im not familiar with Saleri but the price is a lot cheaper, any opinions/brands?
As for the thermostat; is it recommended to replace the entire assembly, or just the thermostat and housing? Is there any only one idler pulley? I can't seem to find one for both belts.
For the brakes I'm looking at this kit: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/lan...akebono-536162
Any other advise that come to mind would be appreciated.
Thanks

I can help with these 2:
- Just do the entire t-stat housing/assembly. Not much more $ and you get a pre-installed t-stat.
- I love my Akebono Ceramics. 25k+ miles and still almost 3/8" thick, very low dust, and no noise. (I know nothing of BOWA sensors)

Only get an OEM LR t-stat housing assembly. If not, buy two. It seems the aftermarket ones dont hold up well. Oddly enough neither do the genuine ones but you know you will get at least 100k out of them before they crack. Aftermarket, not so much.
Unless your water pump is failing, there really is no need to replace it. At your km it should be fine. The water pumps used are really good and not a common failure point. Also they are pretty easy to replace. I am not familiar with Saleri, but I would just google them and see what comes up. AC Delco, a brand I dont care for, seems to make a good one piece pump that more than a few people have used. The price is really good two. Also comes with a nice metal gasket. I still have my original pump at 257,000km but on trips I bring the spare just in case. Although at my milage, I am considering replacing all the bit like you are (except the core). Make sure you use the proper coolant, never mix green and orange.
I think there is just one idler pulley but there are two tensioners with pulleys. I dont have the bearing size specs, but replacing the bearings in the pulleys is really easy with a small rubber hammer and sockets that fit. I had a hard time sourcing one of the tensioner pulleys so I just swapped the bearing itself instead.
