Does anyone have instructions on how to program a newer/used instrument cluster into the LR3?

The shop I have it at wants over $2700 for a new cluster replacement (which is about 30min of work max) and then reprogram in.

i can have my GAP overnighted, add the vin and pick up a used Cluster from landroverparts with a 60 day replacement warranty, have them overnight the part, couple more days of car rental, send my old cluster out for repair/refurbishing and now have a good back up for way less than that.

just never programmed in a cluster before and want to make sure I can absolutely do it before picking up the truck and saying thanks but no thanks!!!

anyone with experience with this/that!

You make a backup of the CCF then restore to the new cluster, i think i read the process in the GAP manual.

I have swapped out a used cluster and it was not that hard-and I did a writeup on it with the idea that if I got it out on the web it could be searched for.

But roughly, you'll want to check with Gap, download your cluster info and they do up a "fastlane" and assuming your cluster mileage is less than your actual mileage they will be able to make those numbers match. They can't roll the numbers back.

I'm going to do a search, I was able to swap clusters without having a Fastlane file made. I still have the old one in the garage.

So going from memory-you swap the cluster, download the CCF from the old one into the new one, then the learning happens.

Turn the ignition on for 1 minute. Turn off for 1 minute. Repeat this process 3 times. After the third "turn off" you should be able to start the vehicle.
Keep in mind the 2005-2007 use a different cluster than the 08-09.

So back up CCF. Install new cluster, then restore old CCF.

Thats it?

how would I know the mileage on the donor Cluster is less than mine. Would landroverparts.com know or have that logged?

what happens if the mileage is more? Would my truck just show higher mileage? Don’t care about that as I have no plans to sell it. Besides, who cares if a truck says 170k vs 200k?

Yes, you get the high milage.

The clusters should work, they just look different. Less gray looking, more silver looking gauge rings and some slight changes to the styling. I like the newer style and want to swap when I find a cheap one.

When you get the GAP tool, you have some basic but essential setup to do with the tool so dont go diving into editing stuff. One must is to go into the menus and do a CPU scan or whatever, with key on it will poke around and make a list of all the ECUs you have. Important cause not all LR3s are the same.

GAP directions via abran in this thread: https://landroverforums.com/forum/lr...e2/#post875228

Step 1: Update your IIDTool

-Connect your IIDTool to your computer
-Start the updater software
-Click on Find Device
-Click on Program Flash File Only
-Click on Program Firmware
-Wait until completion

Step 2: In the vehicle
With the old instrument pack fitted
-Connect the tool
-Menu->Car Config, do not change any settings. Wait until CCF reading is completed.
-Leave the tool connected on the OBD port and mobile App connected on the tool. Do not disconnect the battery, the tool needs to be powered.
-Turn off ignition/remove the key

The following steps need to be done without delay between each other.
-Disconnect and replace the instrument pack with the new one.
-Turn ignition ON
-Restore the CCF backup to the new instrument pack (Menu->Save Restore->Restore Settings->Car Config...)

VIN Reset
-Menu->ECU Flash->IPC Reset, wait until completion
-Turn key OFF, wait one minute
-Turn key ON, wait one minute
-Try to start the engine, if it doesn't start, turn the key off, one minute, then on one minute. Repeat key cycling and delays until engine starts. It can take around 3 cycles before the engine starts

Finalizing

Menu—ECU Flash—IPC, select the desired version
Menu->Service Test->Instrument Pack->Synch odometer
Menu->Service Test->Instrument Pack->VIN Learn

Yes. The GAP tool will usually tell you stuff like turn engine off, engine not running, etc. don’t forget to do an initial scan of ECUs if you have not. Although maybe that is automatic on first use.
