Default RE: Question about brake pads

Hi Roverguy7 - I am the only one who has had any service done on the car (and I am a chick BTW...LOL) My husband is a Brit and wanted me to have a good solid car for our bad winters which is how I ended up with my LR3, but he has his own vehicle and I handle everything related to my car.

I would have to say that a good portion of my mileage is highway driving and not in traffic, which may explain it.

When I picked up the car from this last service (#7) yesterday they said that the front brakes were 7/32 and the rears were 5/32. Apparently here in my home state of Maine, brakes will not pass inspection once they are down to 2/32, so the dealer told me that I still have a ways to go before not passing inspection would become an issue. I can't explain why mine have lasted so long and mind you I am definitely not complaining!

im honestly suprised hunnib, but good to know that they can go that far. then again i am used to washington dc drivers, most of whom think that both those pedals down at their feet are on/off switches, all or nothing.

This could be a dead thread but for the record...I just replaced my own pads, all four wheels, for about $200 and some dirty fingernails. I was quoted $1000 at the dealer. Of course I was just so proud of myself for saving the money and learning how to do it. Murphy's law said hold on there fella...boom you have a dead battery. I'll be jump starting and bring it in on Monday.

There is a good company called Raybestos. I just had my brakes replaced because they were super low. All together you can pay about $800 to $1000 to get your brakes done. The parts alone are close to $700 if I am not mistaken.

I think the sensor should come on before you get to the point that they need to be replaced right then and there.
