Ready to Tow?
There are too many reports of the quick release ones failing under load for me to ever trust them. I installed a Curt frame mount hitch.
guess I better read up on failures then. Having the maximum departure angle is important to me when not towing, which made the detachable option preferred over the frame mount, but safety and prevention trump above all. I just wish you could pull out the useless recovery point and put the receiver in it's place! Thanks.
Yeah, it's a bit of a controversy. Plenty of people on both sides for the detachable ones. But, there are zero reports that I'm aware of for a name brand frame mount hitch failing in the LR3 - which to me, says a lot.
They don't compromise departure angle very much btw.

Guess you haven't seen this then:

BTW - the LR hitch failures were all 1st gen (poor longer design) weren't they - not the current 3rd gen stout design?

I think it's probably one of the most stout factory recovery points put on a production 4x4.
Best place to put a shackle when off-roading. Way better than a hitch shackle.
